As a diesel truck owner, I know how important it is to keep an eye on your engine’s performance. When I first got my 6.0, I wanted to be able to read diagnostic codes and monitor parameters easily. That’s when I discovered FORScan, and it’s been fantastic for in-depth diagnostics when I’m working in my shop with my laptop. I used a USB OBD2 adapter from OHP Ford ELMConfig for that, which worked perfectly.
But for everyday use and on-the-go monitoring, I needed something more portable than a computer. Like many diesel enthusiasts, I’m looking for the best Diesel Obd2 App to use with my smartphone. While I have plans to install a dedicated Mini ITX PC in my truck later, for now, a mobile solution is ideal.
That’s why I decided to try a WiFi OBD2 adapter, the OHP WiFi Ford ELMConfig version.
I’ll be pairing this with my iPhone 6+ to test out various diesel OBD2 apps available. There are tons of apps out there that promise to be the best for monitoring your diesel engine, and I plan to share my experiences, highlighting the pros and cons of different software options. I’m focusing on apps that work with standard OBD2 adapters, so I won’t be covering options that require proprietary hardware, like DashBoss or BlueDriver.
If you’re also looking into using a diesel OBD2 app with your iPhone or other iOS devices, it’s crucial to know that many Bluetooth OBD2 readers aren’t compatible with iOS. WiFi OBD2 readers, like the one I’m testing, generally avoid these issues, but it’s always a good idea to double-check compatibility before you buy.
Update:
I wanted to give a shout-out to the company I purchased the OBD adapter from. Their customer service has been outstanding! They were very responsive to my questions and even offered to send me the WiFi version of their adapter for free so I can test it out and give them feedback on compatibility and performance. It’s great to see a company that truly backs its products and values customer input.
