Defi OBD2 Gauge: Simplify Your Car Performance Monitoring

The Defi ADVANCE CAN Driver was designed for car enthusiasts and DIY mechanics who want to easily install Defi ADVANCE gauges. This innovative unit retrieves ISO-CAN data directly from your vehicle’s OBDII connector, eliminating the need for traditional sensors in many setups. It’s especially beneficial for vehicles where accessing engine speed signals from the ECU is challenging.

What is a Defi OBD2 Gauge?

In essence, the Defi CAN Driver acts as an interpreter, translating your car’s onboard computer data into readable signals for Defi ADVANCE series gauges. OBD2 (On-Board Diagnostics II) is a standardized system in most modern vehicles that provides access to various vehicle parameters. CAN (Controller Area Network) bus is a communication protocol used within vehicles to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other without a host computer.

By tapping into the OBDII port and utilizing the CAN bus, the Defi CAN Driver allows you to monitor crucial engine data without the complexity of installing individual sensors. This simplifies the installation process significantly, making it easier than ever to add performance gauges to your car. Instead of physically wiring sensors to measure boost pressure, water temperature, or RPM, the Defi Obd2 Gauge system reads this information directly from the vehicle’s data network.

Compatible Gauges and Limitations

The Defi ADVANCE CAN Driver is compatible with the following gauges in the ADVANCE series:

  • Tachometer
  • Turbo/Boost gauge (available in 120kPa, 200kPa, and 29PSI ranges)
  • In-mani (manifold) pressure gauge
  • Water temperature gauge

It’s important to note the following limitations:

  • Gauge Limit: A single CAN Driver can support up to three gauges. Exceeding this limit is not recommended.
  • Gauge Compatibility: Only the gauges listed above are compatible with the CAN Driver. Other Defi gauges, including ADVANCE ZD, are not supported.
  • No Daisy-Chaining: The CAN Driver cannot be linked or daisy-chained with the ADVANCE link system. It operates as a standalone unit.

Product Lineup and Vehicle Compatibility

While the ADVANCE CAN Driver (DF15601) has been discontinued since February 2023, there were previously sets available that bundled the CAN Driver with ADVANCE BF tachometers. These sets are also discontinued:

  • DF15701 CAN Driver & ADVANCE BF 60mm tachometer set (End of Life)
  • DF15702 CAN Driver & ADVANCE BF 80mm tachometer set (End of Life)
  • DF15801 CAN Driver & ADVANCE A1 80mm tachometer set (End of Life)

These sets featured white ADVANCE BF models, with the 60mm set being a 9000RPM tachometer and the 80mm sets being 11000RPM tachometers.

Regarding vehicle compatibility, the Defi ADVANCE CAN Driver is designed for vehicles equipped with an OBDII connector that supports the ISO-CAN protocol. Compatibility information for vehicles sold outside of Japan is limited. It is highly recommended to consult with an official Defi distributor or wholesaler in your region to confirm compatibility and availability before attempting to purchase or install this product. They can provide the most accurate and up-to-date information for your specific vehicle make and model.

Please note: Due to the discontinuation of the ADVANCE CAN Driver, availability may be limited. Contacting Defi’s official distributors or wholesalers is crucial to check for remaining stock and explore potential alternatives for OBD2 gauge solutions.
