The United Nude Lo Res Car: Exploring Low Resolution Automotive Design

The Lo Res Car stands as a testament to innovative design, born from the unique “Lo Res Project” – a concept synonymous with the United Nude brand. This project explores the fascinating realm of reducing 3D resolution in design, iteratively simplifying an object to create increasingly abstract yet captivating forms. The very shape of the Lo Res Car is derived from this intriguing process, specifically by applying low-resolution techniques to the iconic Lamborghini Countach, a design masterpiece conceived by Marcello Gandini for Bertone in the early 1970s.

More than just a means of transportation, the vehicle operates as a conceptual design study, pushing the boundaries of automotive aesthetics far beyond the conventions of traditional car manufacturing. It’s an exploration into form and perception, challenging our preconceived notions of what a car can be.

Inside this groundbreaking “lo res car,” occupants are seated in a tandem configuration, with the passenger positioned directly behind the driver. Encased within a transparent polycarbonate capsule, journeys become extraordinary glides through urban landscapes, offering an unparalleled and immersive driving sensation. While powered by an electric drivetrain, its current capabilities are intentionally limited to a maximum speed of 50 km/h. This design choice, along with its non-street legal status, is deliberate, ensuring the vehicle remains uncompromised in its radical and experimental essence. The focus remains firmly on design innovation rather than road-ready practicality.

United Nude Lo Res Car Achieves 50 Million Views in Rich The Kid’s “New Freezer” Music Video Featuring Kendrick Lamar

Following its prestigious win of the Wallpaper Magazine Design Award in 2016, the Lo Res Car has expanded its global footprint, not only geographically but also in numbers, with four vehicles now in existence. Beyond exhibitions and film appearances, this unique “lo res car” has now permeated the realm of Hip-Hop culture, prominently featured in Rich The Kid’s “New Freezer” music video.

Rem D Koolhaas, Creative Director and Founder of United Nude, shared his experience: “Being integrated into this video production was truly remarkable. The project’s core ethos of experimentation and boundary-pushing resonated deeply with me. It felt like a natural fit, especially given that Rich The Kid references a ‘Space Coupe’ in his latest track. To me, it’s clear he’s rapping about this very car.”
