Hummer EV Range: Unpacking the Mileage of the Electric Hummer SUV

GMC’s Hummer has always been known for its imposing size, and the electric Hummer EV SUV is no exception. Reviving the Hummer name for the EV era, General Motors has created a vehicle that is both massive and modern. Having test-driven the pickup version in 2022, we now turn our attention to the 2024 Hummer EV SUV, priced at $104,650, to see how this electric behemoth performs, particularly in terms of range.

One of the first concerns when encountering the Hummer EV SUV is its sheer size. Classified as a class 3 medium-duty truck, it occupies a significant footprint. While slightly shorter than the pickup at 196.8 inches (5,000 mm), excluding the rear-mounted spare tire, its presence is undeniable.

Fitting the Hummer EV SUV into a standard parking space is indeed a tight affair. Its 86.5-inch (2,196 mm) width leaves minimal room, making door access challenging when parked near other vehicles. The vehicle’s height is equally commanding, standing at 77.8 inches (1,976 mm) with 10.2 inches (259 mm) of ground clearance in its normal suspension setting. A lowering “entry mode” is available, but requires pre-planning before parking.

The Hummer EV SUV’s curb weight is a staggering 9,063 lbs (4,119 kg). This substantial mass, exceeding four metric tons, would necessitate a commercial driver’s license in many countries. A significant portion of this weight is attributed to the massive 217.7 kWh battery pack. This enormous battery capacity is key to achieving a respectable Hummer Ev Range despite the vehicle’s aerodynamic challenges, characterized by a 0.5 drag coefficient and a large frontal area.

Despite these factors, the Hummer EV SUV boasts an EPA range estimate of 314 miles (503 km) on a full charge. Interestingly, GM’s internal testing indicated an even more optimistic range of 358 miles for our test vehicle. It’s important to note that, due to its class 3 truck classification, the Hummer EV SUV doesn’t strictly adhere to standard EPA testing procedures. This impressive Hummer EV range ensures that while the Hummer EV SUV is undeniably large, it is also capable of covering significant distances on electric power.
