As we move into 2024, the EV market is not only expanding but also becoming increasingly diverse, presenting consumers with a wider array of models and configurations than ever before. While this abundance of choice is a positive sign for the industry, it also introduces a layer of complexity for potential buyers, particularly when it comes to understanding Electric Vehicle Pricing.
To simplify the EV shopping experience, we have compiled an updated guide to electric vehicle pricing for the U.S. market in 2024. This comprehensive list includes over 250 individual battery-electric vehicle (BEV) configurations, encompassing models currently available for order or reservation, upcoming releases, and even some discontinued vehicles that may still be found on dealer lots, such as the Fisker Ocean.
Preparing and maintaining a list of this scale is a continuous effort. The EV landscape is dynamic, with frequent updates to model lineups, price adjustments, the introduction of new models, and evolving range ratings. Adding to this complexity are the ever-changing regulations surrounding the $7,500 federal tax credit, which can significantly impact the final electric vehicle pricing and consumer decisions. It’s important to note that in some cases, this federal tax credit may be accessible when leasing an EV, altering the overall cost comparison between different models.
All prices listed are Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), plus destination charges and obligatory fees (if known), and minus the federal tax credit (if applicable). This represents a baseline cost before considering any additional rebates, state or local incentives, or optional features. Driving range figures are based on official EPA Combined range estimates or manufacturer-provided expected values.

Decoding Electric Vehicle Price Points
Our electric vehicle pricing comparison begins with the Fisker Ocean, a discontinued crossover that, despite not qualifying for the federal tax credit, stands out as one of the most affordable EVs currently available. Although Fisker’s production partner, Magna, only manufactured approximately 11,000 units before Fisker’s bankruptcy, some Ocean models may still be available. These remaining vehicles offer a unique entry point into the EV market.
If we exclude the Fisker Ocean, the most budget-friendly 2024 EV model is the Nissan Leaf S, equipped with a 40 kWh battery. It has a starting MSRP of $28,140, in addition to a $1,140 destination charge. While the Nissan Leaf S does not currently qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit, it’s worth checking with dealerships about potential lease incentives that might incorporate this credit.
The Mini Cooper SE, once a lower-range option, is no longer in production. Taking its place as a more accessible EV with a reasonable range is the Volkswagen ID.4 Standard (62 kWh). This model offers an EPA-estimated range exceeding 200 miles and, importantly, is eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit. This credit can bring the effective electric vehicle pricing down to as low as $33,660, including destination charges, making it a compelling option for budget-conscious EV buyers.
Looking ahead, the Chevrolet Equinox EV 1LT is anticipated to become the most affordable long-range EV, boasting an estimated 300 miles of range with a starting price around $35,000, before factoring in any potential tax credits.
Currently, the most economical Tesla model is the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD, priced at $36,380 (including destination and the $7,500 federal incentive). This model delivers an impressive EPA-estimated range of 363 miles. The Tesla Model Y, while slightly more expensive, also represents strong value within the Tesla lineup.
Of the over 250 EV configurations we analyzed, only 17 are priced below $40,000. A significant factor limiting the availability of EVs in this price range is the eligibility criteria for the $7,500 federal tax credit. However, the number of configurations priced under $50,000 is considerably higher, nearing 60, indicating a growing segment of more moderately priced electric vehicles.
For those interested in electric pickup trucks, the most affordable option is the Ford F-150 Lightning XLT with a Standard Range battery, starting at $57,590 after destination fees and the $7,500 incentive. The Rivian R1T pickup truck begins at a higher price point, with the Dual-Motor, Standard Pack version starting at $69,900 (including destination), while the Dual-Motor Large Pack version, benefiting from a $3,750 tax credit, is priced from $73,150. The Tesla Cybertruck enters the market at a significantly higher price point, with the most affordable configuration starting at $101,985.
The majority of BEV configurations are priced below $100,000, but a substantial portion – approximately one-third – fall into the six-figure price range, representing the premium and luxury segments of the EV market.
The most expensive electric vehicles currently available are offered by brands like Rolls-Royce, Cadillac, Lucid, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. Several models from these manufacturers exceed $150,000 before options, showcasing the high-end capabilities and features available at the top of the electric vehicle pricing spectrum.
